1. Log in to typing.com

2. Click TESTS (located on the top next to Lessons)

3. TAKE THE 5 (FIVE) MINUTE TYPING TEST (this is due TODAY): 10 Pts for the week (Test + Lesson).

4. Begin Typing !!

  1. Students click on the Clever icon on the desktop

  2. Sign in using the username & password (same as logging into computer)

Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: This week you will create the Skyscraper Panic Game in Kodu. Each day you will show the teacher what you have completed step by step!​

Kodu Game Lab: Skyscraper Panic!

Today you will work on the Kodu Skyscraper Panic Project!

I will show you step by step how to create the project. Please follow along.

If you get ahead, please wait to ask questions!

OPEN KODU

Click the ​Kodu Game Lab​ icon on your desktop!​

Sign in

  • Use YOUR FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL!

  • Example: John Smith= JohnS

  • Pin: 0102

  • Click the "Keep me signed in when Kodu exits" button!

  • Click OK

SEPARATE YOUR SCREENS TO VIEW BOTH SCREENS AT THE SAME TIME!

TABS SHOULD NOW BE SIDE BY SIDE!

SELECT ONE TAB AND PRESS WINDOWS + LEFT ARROW

SELECT THE OTHER TAB AND PRESS WINDOWS + RIGHT ARROW

REMEMBER YOU WILL BE SAVING YOUR PROJECT! IF YOU DO NOT SAVE YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT!!!

Click the HOME button...

SAVE MY WORLD!

TO BEGIN...

  • Select NEW WORLD

  • Select the first world on the LEFT!

ZOOM OUT...

  • Zoom Out using your mouse wheel (scroll wheel towards you) or the PageUp/ PageDown keys on your keyboard.

  • Zoom out until the bit of terrain is about the size shown in the picture left

GROUND BRUSH...

  • Click on the Ground Brush. Choose Brush Type

  • Select the Hard Round Brush shape!

CREATING THE LAND...

  • Hover over the grass that is already there.

  • Then press the RIGHT arrow key 40 times (yes FORTY times!) to make a big circle (you are increasing the size of the brush)

  • Left click ONCE to create the large land! (See image left)

CREATING THE LAND...

ADD A KODU...

  • Click on the OBJECT TOOL

  • Click on the center of the grass.

  • Select Kodu

AT THIS POINT...

SAVE YOUR WORLD!!!!

Name is SKYSCRAPER

Click HOME button

SAVE MY WORLD!

  • Change the name to Skyscraper

  • Click SAVE

  • Once Saved you can continue to EDIT world

ADDING STREETS

ADDING STREETS!

  • Select the Ground Brush

  • Choose the Linear Square Brush

  • Choose a GRAY color (Material) from the Ground Brush Materials

  • Click to select it

RESIZE THE BRUSH...

  • NOTE: Your brush still might be really big so we need to reduce it!

  • Zoom in to see Kodu

  • Move the mouse pointer over the terrain near the Kodu and tap the LEFT ARROW KEY on your keyboard until the glowing square is just a little larger than the Kodu character. (You are DECREASING the size of the brush)

MOVE KODU...

BEFORE CONTINUING...

Click the OBJECT TOOL, then MOVE KODU OUTSIDE THE GREEN TERRAIN AREA!

This will help to not lose him!

TIP! To make the "streets, it helps to orbit the camera (use the Move Camera Tool (Hand) and right click) so your ground is facing the screen.

STREETS...

  • Make lines by clicking and dragging your mouse across the grass circle.

  • See next step for the amount of lines...

CREATING THE STREETS...

  • Create a waffle grid of streets that is 6 streets horizontal by 7 streets vertical...

    • 7 vertical lines

    • 6 horizontal lines


  • Your "streets" should look somewhat like the image (left)

AT THIS POINT...

SAVE YOUR WORLD AGAIN!!!!


Click HOME button

CLICK SAVE...

Note: 'Y' (Increment & Save) saves each SAVE. If you click this remember to return to your LAST saved world! (World will be marked with a Version V01 etc)

COLORING THE CITY...

  • Switch your Brush Shape to the Magic Brush

  • Click on the Material option above the Ground Brush Tool


  • Choose a color. Fill in 1-3 squares with that color by clicking the GREEN areas

CONTINUE COLORING...

  • Choose other colors for the other squares. You may use the same color up to 3 times

  • NOTE: You should have at least 12 different color changes!

  • (Example: Choose Color 9, click on three different green squares to add color. Select a new material/color and repeat etc)

  • Choose a color. Fill in 1-3 squares with that color

  • DO NOT USE GRAY OR GREEN!!!

TIP! Be careful not to select the "streets" with the Magic Brush and change the color. If you do this on accident, try using CTRL + Z to UNDO!

SHORTCUT: UNDO

LET'S MAKE BUILDINGS....

  • Select the Move Camera Tool. Rotate and Zoom in on your terrain so you’re looking at it from a slight angle.


Remember the left side of you screen explains mouse tips to Drag Terrain, Orbiting the Camera and Zooming with your mouse!

LET'S MAKE BUILDINGS....

  • Click on the UP/DOWN Tool (to the right of the Ground Brush Tool)

  • Select the Brushes and change the brush to the Magic Brush again.

  • Click on one of the color patches, and the patch will rise up, like a skyscraper! Click multiple times to raise heights of each “building”. (Tip: it is easier to raise the buildings in the back first and move forward!)

  • Perform this same operation on all remaining colored squares, but change the height of EACH building.

If you accidentally lift up your streets, RIGHT CLICK to bring them back down.
