Advanced: Numeric Keypad :: Due FRIDAY, May 6 :: 10 Points

Typing:

1. Log in to typing.com

2. Click Lessons

3. On Advanced Tab, Click Advanced: Numeric Keypad (this is due FRIDAY, May 6): 10 Pts.

4. Begin Typing (Please DO NOT GO PAST THIS LESSON! It will RESET if you do!)

NOTE!!! No late TYPING will be accepted!!!!

If you are finished or waiting, work on Clever!

  1. Students click on the Clever icon on the desktop

  2. Sign in using the username & password (same as logging into computer)

  3. Click on the square that says iReady

  4. Continue until time is up!

Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Kodu Game Lab: Hills, Valleys and Objects...oh my! Today you will be learning how to add different hills and valleys and how to add and resize objects! ​

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning the programs well helps us be better programmers! We are critical thinkers! Following directions helps us learn! ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: This week you create a landscape following instructions. Each day you will show the teacher what you have completed step by step!​

Sign in to Kodu!

HILLS, VALLEYS & OBJECTS...OH MY!!!

OPEN KODU

Click the ​Kodu Game Lab​ icon on your desktop!​

Sign in

  • Use YOUR FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL!

  • Example: John Smith= JohnS

  • Pin: 0102

  • Click the "Keep me signed in when Kodu exits" button!

  • Click OK

LETS'S BEGIN...

TO BEGIN...

  • Select NEW WORLD

  • Select the first world on the LEFT!

ZOOM OUT...

  • Zoom Out using your mouse wheel (scroll wheel towards you) or the PageUp/ PageDown keys on your keyboard.

  • Zoom out just a bit (see the picture left)

GROUND BRUSH...

  • Click on the Ground Brush. Choose Brush Type

  • Select the SQUARE Brush shape!

ADD TERAIN...

  • Hover over the grass that is already there.

  • Then press the RIGHT arrow key 25 times to make a big square (you are increasing the size of the brush)

  • Left click ONCE to create the large land! (See image left)

CREATING HILLS...

  • Click on the UP/Down tool

  • Select the SQUARE BRUSH

RESIZE THE BRUSH...

  • NOTE: Your brush still might be really big so we need to reduce it!

  • Move the mouse pointer over the terrain to see the brush and tap the LEFT ARROW KEY 25 times on your keyboard until the glowing square back to the original size (You are DECREASING the size of the brush)

CREATING HILLS...

  • Left click on the left corner to create "hills"

  • Left click goes up, right click goes down!

Notice...

  • how the "hills" are blocks (kind of like MineCraft)

Press the DOWN ARROW on your keyboard




SMOOTH HILLS...

  • Select the Ground Brush tool again

  • Select Materials Icon (the 4 boxes)

  • Press the DOWN ARROW on your keyboard to change it to smooth (see image left)

NOW...

  • "Paint" over the hills you just created (Stay on material 20)


  • Once complete, use the Move Cameral tool (Hand) to view the hills from a different angle!

DIFFERENT HILLS...

  • Select the UP/DOWN Brush

  • Click on the BLUE Brushes (icons)

  • Select the Soft Round Brush

  • Use the Arrow Keys on your keyboard to change to the desired size

  • On the Right Top corner, use the brush (left click goes up, right click goes down) to make different hills

  • This brush builds in sort of a pyramid form (but still squares)


TIP! you can use the water tool to add water AFTER you have both sides of the terrain raised to create a valley!

CREATE A RIVER!

  • Click on the Ground Brush.

  • Select the Hard Round Brush shape!

  • Select a BLUE color

  • "Paint" along the side of your hills to create a river!

  • Then use the UP/DOWN Tool to create the other side of the river


ADD SOME OTHER OBJECTS!

  • Add a few trees, a hut and some rocks!

  • Right click these objects to change their size, rotate etc!

AT THIS POINT...

SAVE YOUR WORLD!!!

Name it TEST WORLD

Click HOME button

SAVE MY WORLD!

ADD A "CASTLE"...

  • Click on the MOVE CAMERA Tool (Hand)

  • Right click and pull down (towards you) so that you are looking at the top of your world

  • You may have to ZOOM out!

NOW...

  • Click on the GROUND BRUSH tool

  • Select the Square Brush

SAMPLING!

  • The last color used was BLUE...we need to use our original terrain color right?

  • Hover over the GREEN terrain

  • Press the ALT key on your keyboard

  • A cone will appear

Click to sample the color!

CONTINUE...

  • Zoom out (Use the wheel on your mouse)

  • Create a green path at the bottom of your terrain as shown left

CREATE ANOTHER TERRAIN...

  • At the end of the path you just created, we will add another patch of terrain!

  • You might have to zoom out further!

  • Using the RIGHT ARROW KEY, make your brush size larger (you decide how large)

  • Click once to add a large square to end of the path!

ADD A CASTLE...

  • With the Ground Brush (Square Brush) still selected...

  • Make the brush slightly smaller

  • Press the left arrow on your keyboard 4 or 5 times

  • DO NOT CLICK YET!

CHANGE THE MATERIAL

  • Choose a GRAY color (Material) from the Ground Brush Materials (like 16)

  • Click the color to select it

Continue...

  • Center your square brush inside the new green terrain

  • Click ONCE to create a gray box

RESIZE THE BRUSH...

  • With the Ground Brush (Square Brush) still selected...

  • Make the brush slightly smaller

  • Press the left arrow on your keyboard 4 or 5 times

  • DO NOT CLICK YET!

CHANGE MATERIAL...

  • The last color used was GRAY...we need to use our original terrain color right?

  • Hover over the GREEN terrain

  • Press the ALT key on your keyboard and click to sample green color

  • Center square brush inside the GRAY Square

  • Click once! (see left)

CASTLE OPENING...

  • Using the LEFT ARROW KEY, make your brush size smaller (about 10 times)

  • Click to create an opening in the castle wall (near the path we created)

CHANGE THE VIEW...

  • Click on the MOVE CAMERA Tool (Hand)

  • Right click and push the mouse forward (away from you) to see your world at a slight angle (see left)

RAISE THE WALLS...

  • Click on the UP/DOWN Tool (to the right of the Ground Brush Tool)

  • Select the Brushes and change the brush to the Magic Brush.

  • LEFT click on the castle wall to raise it (you decide the height)

AT THIS POINT...

SAVE YOUR WORLD!!!

Click HOME button

SAVE MY WORLD!

IF YOU DID NOT TURN IT IN!

GETTING CREDIT FOR LAST WEEK'S SKYSCRAPER...
